Indian steel powerhouse, Jindal Stainless, announced plans to set up two rooftop solar power plants of 21 MWp and 6 MWp capacities at Jaipur and Hisar manufacturing units. The project, which aims to reduce the organization’s carbon footprint, will require an investment of over ₹120 Crores.
The solar plant will cumulatively generate 795 million units of electricity and offset about 5, 64, 450 tonnes of CO2 emissions in its lifetime. The project will also save 108 acres of land space, which would have been used if panels were mounted on the ground.
The roofs of the various shop floors of the Jaipur and Hisar facilities have been identified for laying down the equipment. The projects are expected to be completed by March 2024.
“This is an important step towards achieving our Net Zero target. Solar rooftop plants are a great alternate source of energy in a tropical country like ours,” said Abhyuday Jindal, Managing Director, of Jindal Stainless.
India has the world’s second-largest steel industry, which consumes a massive amount of electricity. Since energy accounts for a major portion of a business’s operational costs, many organizations are turning to renewable energy sources like solar power. This switch to solar energy has multiple benefits for a steel business, including a reduction in energy expenses, the company’s carbon footprint, and an improvement in brand image.
