More than 5900 acres of land space has been allocated for 19 renewable energy projects in Uttar Pradesh. According to officials, the projects would require a cumulative investment of ₹18,831 crore.
“So far, we have allotted 5718.029 acres of land to solar projects and 186.28 acres to bioenergy projects, totaling 5904.309 acres and this a big achievement considering the fact that finding suitable land for projects is a challenge,” stated Mr. Anupam Shukla, director, Uttar Pradesh New and Renewable Energy Development Agency (UPNEDA). Moreover, the entire land area allocated belongs to the Indian government.
Out of the 19 RE projects, land has been allocated for four solar farm projects which include:
- A 600 MW solar park (263.77 acres) in Gaurutha tehsil, Jhansi that will require an investment of ₹3,000 crore
- A 600 MW solar park (1317.80 acres) in Talbehat tehsil in Lalitpur at an investment of ₹4000 crore
- An 800 MW solar park (955 acres) that will require an investment of ₹3,000 in Mau tehsil in Chitrakoot
- A 1,200 MW solar park in Madhoarh and Orai tehsils in the Jalaun district, at an investment of ₹6,000 crore
While the first three projects are proposed to be set up by TUSCO Ltd., the fourth will be developed by Bundelkhand Saur Urja Limited. Both are joint venture companies of UPNEDA.
Apart from these, land has been allocated for 5 solar plants which include:
- 75 MW solar power project in Akbarpur Tehsil, Kanpur Dehat
- 35 MW solar project in Ghatampur tehsil, Kanpur Nagar
- 150 MW solar plant in Kali tehsil, Jalaun
- 40 MW project in Sadar tehsil, Ayodhya
- 70 MW solar project in Pailani tehsil, Banda
The remaining ten would be biogas projects.
Uttar Pradesh has become one of the top states in India when it comes to solar energy adoption. In February 2023, Uttar Pradesh hosted the three-day Global Investors’ Summit. The state government has signed close to 300 MOUs for renewable energy projects, out of which 100 agreements for setting up solar power plants!
Further, UP is also gearing up to unveil Ayodhya as the first solar city. The state government also launched the ‘Har Ghar Solar’ scheme in October to promote rooftop solar adoption.
