There are two types of solar inverters available in the market: Solar microinverter & String Inverters.

In a string solar inverter, all solar modules get connected with the help of a string, and this string is connected to the inverter box, which is a large-sized box. This box needs a big space to set up. String inverters convert the total energy based on the lowest-performing panel. So, all panels must be behaving at similar levels for the most energy to be gained from the system. If one panel has a branch shading it by 30%, you will only receive 70% of your total system’s possible production.

On the other hand, micro inverter are much smaller and connected right behind every solar module individually. So, there is no need for any extra space for these inverters. They convert each panel’s DC to AC at the source of creation. Each microinverter works independently from the rest of the panels, converting the amount of energy that each solar panel is generating. Microinverters tend to cost a bit more but are a crucial part of getting the most energy out of systems with unique specifications.

If we compare the solar micro inverter with the string inverter in terms of performance, the string inverter’s efficiency lies between 94% and 96%. In the case of solar microinverters, it can be 98% or above.

In the case of a string inverter, there is only one inverter for the whole solar solution. If the inverter fails to perform, then the whole system will shut down. Besides this, in the string inverter, all panels are connected through a string, and there are power losses in the power transfer.
