R.K Singh the union minister of power and new and renewable energy has shared the details regarding the funds and benefits received by farmers through PM KUSUM Scheme till 30th June 2023. As per the information, approximately 2.45 lakh farmers across the nation have benefitted from the scheme.
Moreover, the government has allocated a sum of 1636.4 crores towards the scheme. 5 Indian states-Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab and Jharkhand dominated the benefits. These states alone accounted for 82.7% of the benefits.
The data also revealed that 24.43 lakh solar pumps were installed under PM KUSUM.
The Indian government launched the PM KUSUM scheme in 2019 to promote de-dieselization of the farm sector, enhance water and energy security and increase the income of farmers. It has 3 components:
- Component A: Installation of small scale solar plants on barren lands
- Component B: Installation of solar water pumps
- Component C: Solarization of the feeders
The government has taken multiple steps to achieve these goals. A central financial assistance (CFA) is available for solar pumps, low cost financing has been made available, and web portals have been created at central and state level to monitor the progress.
Moreover, the scheme has been extended till March 2026.
