To curb emissions and cut energy imports in Kerala, 75000 homes are being converted into mini-solar power stations. The project aims to make solar energy cheaper for low-income families.
Two years ago, Kerala’s resident Mr. Govindan Satheeshan installed rooftop solar panels under a state government scheme. After this incident, most of Kerala’s residents sure about solar & taking steps towards it.
Increasing electricity bills day by day has inspired the people here to adopt solar. Before adopting solar, after every two months, there was a bill of about INR 15,000, which is almost zero today.
Satheeshan is very happy with the output of his initiative. & inviting those people who are still uncertain about installing a home solar system in Thiruvananthapuram, the state capital.
He told to the Thomson Reuters Foundation, ” People are still doubtful about the feasibility of rooftop solar panels. If anyone is interested but skeptical, they are welcome to visit my home and I will clarify (the benefits).”
The Soura (Sun) project aims to install solar panels on 75,000 homes, which will contribute 350 megawatts (MW) of power to the state’s grid.
Combined with the 20,000 houses that already put in solar panels under an earlier initiative, the new Soura project will help Kerala cover about 10% of its electricity needs through solar, according to KSEB, the state’s electricity board.
