India’s First Solar Smart Bus Stand Launched in Surat: A New Era of Clean & Connected Travel

In a major step toward smart urban mobility, Surat has launched India’s first solar-powered smart bus stand, developed by the Surat Municipal Corporation in partnership with GIZ. Built at a cost of ₹1.6 crore, the facility is powered by a 100 kW rooftop solar plant and a 224 kWh battery system, enabling round-the-clock green EV charging. Equipped with Wi-Fi, CCTV, digital boards, and mobile charging points, it offers a modern and energy-efficient commuter experience.

Strategically located near the ONGC Bridge, this is the first of 20 planned smart bus stands under SMC’s clean energy vision. With rising urban populations and increasing pressure on transit systems, the move positions Surat as a forward-thinking city promoting sustainable, tech-driven mobility.

This development not only strengthens Surat’s status as one of India’s fastest-growing smart cities but also reflects a larger national shift toward solar infrastructure and sustainable urban development. With cleaner energy and commuter-centric design, this solar smart bus stop sets a new benchmark for cities across India.
