The International Solar Alliance (ISA) and Bhutan’s Department of Energy and Ministry of Energy & Natural Resources have forged a Country Partnership Agreement (CPA) to advance Bhutan’s journey towards a sustainable energy future.
This partnership aims to pave the way for a more sustainable & resilient energy future for Bhutan, the ISA said in a post on X.
The ISA was conceived as a joint effort by India and France to combat climate change through solar energy deployment. At present, 116 countries are signatories to the ISA Framework Agreement, out of which 94 countries have submitted the necessary instruments of ratification to become full members of the ISA.”
The ISA’s MoU with Bhutan focuses on the STAR-C initiative, aiming to establish the STAR Centre at the Royal University of Bhutan, fostering solar innovation and capacity building.
In 2022, the Asian Development Bank approved $18.26 million in financing for Bhutan’s first utility-scale solar photovoltaic power plant, indicating growing support for renewable energy projects in the region.
