In partnership with AB Energia Solutions, Jindal Stainless has launched Odisha’s largest captive solar plant at its Jajpur facility. The 30 MWp project includes a 7.324 MWp floating system and a 23.02 MWp rooftop setup. This setup spans ten units and produces 44.3 million units of clean energy each year. This amount of energy can power 12,000 to 15,000 homes.
This solar initiative is projected to reduce carbon emissions by over 32,000 metric tonnes per year, significantly cutting the plant’s reliance on conventional energy sources. The floating solar panels provide dual benefits—enhancing energy generation while minimizing water evaporation, ensuring efficient use of existing resources. Abhyuday Jindal, the Managing Director of Jindal Stainless, called the project an important step for the company. He highlighted their strong commitment to clean energy and reaching net-zero emissions.
The installation is part of a larger ₹700 crore investment planned over the next five years to drive carbon reduction. The company aims to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050. Siddharth Bhatia, the MD of AB Energia Solutions, highlighted the importance of sustainable innovations. These innovations help Indian manufacturers stay competitive in a global market that wants greener products.
Jindal Stainless is one of India’s top stainless steel makers. In FY24, it reported a revenue of ₹38,562 crore. The company is growing and plans to reach 4.2 million tonnes of annual melt capacity by FY27. The company uses electric arc furnaces. This method is greener and helps with large-scale recycling. This initiative also aligns with India’s goal of achieving 500 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030.
