On the eve of World Environment Day, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar inaugurated the 2-megawatt Bikram Lock Canal Bank Solar Energy Project in Patna district. This project is a significant step under the Bihar government’s Jal-Jeevan-Hariyali Abhiyan, aimed at promoting sustainable and green energy solutions across the state.
The solar power plant is installed on land owned by the Water Resources Department near the Bikram Lock canal. Under a 25-year agreement with the Energy Department, a private company will supply electricity at a competitive rate of ₹3.10 per unit. This initiative is expected to provide affordable, clean energy to residents of Bikram and surrounding areas, enhancing energy access while supporting environmental goals.
CM Kumar highlighted Bihar’s strong commitment to expanding solar energy infrastructure. The government is conducting surveys to identify suitable sites along canals, dams, rivers, and embankments for future solar installations, signaling a broader push towards renewable energy.
Beyond reducing reliance on traditional fossil fuels and lowering carbon emissions, the project aims to create local employment opportunities and stimulate economic growth in the region.
Energy Department Secretary Pankaj Kumar Pal provided the Chief Minister with detailed updates on the Bikram project and other ongoing solar energy initiatives, reflecting the state’s proactive approach to clean energy development.
