Highlights:

  • MNRE just upped the solar game by adding 3,501 MW to its solar module capacity.
  • India can produce a whopping 37,421 MW of solar energy!

The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has significantly increased the Approved List of Models and Manufacturers (ALMM) by adding an impressive 3,501 MW of new solar module capacity. This update has resulted in the module manufacturing capacity reaching an impressive 37,421 MW.

Tata Power Solar and Goldi Solar, among other companies, have made significant contributions to solar energy production. Specifically, Tata Power Solar has contributed 2,525 MW of solar capacity, while Goldi Solar has contributed 976 MW. These contributions have brought the total number of module manufacturers within the ALMM to 81.

As of March 22, 2024, only solar modules with an efficiency of 18% or higher were considered for enlistment on ALMM List-1.

The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has introduced reforms to the ALMM, which include incorporating cadmium telluride thin film-based models along with crystalline-silicon models, introducing additional module technology, and setting minimum efficiency standards.
