SJVN Ltd (Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam), a state-owned company, announced on Friday that it has received a letter of intent (LoI) for the provision of 200 MW of solar power to Bihar. “Bihar Renewable Energy Development Agency (BREDA) has issued a letter of intent (LOI) for the procurement of 200 MW of power from…SJVN from the company’s grid-connected solar power project being implemented in the state of Bihar at a discovered tariff of Rs 3.11 per kWh,” according to a company statement. The letter of intent was issued after the Bihar Electricity Regulatory Commission approved the rate (BERC). In this context, SJVN will soon negotiate a power purchase agreement.
During an e-reverse auction in August 2021, SJVN’s Chairman and Managing Director, Nand Lal Sharma, announced that the company has won a grid connect solar power project in Bihar through an open competitive tariff bidding process with a capacity of 200 MW.
The estimated cost of construction and development for this project is Rs 1,000 crore, according to Sharma. The project is planned to generate 420.48 MU (million units) in its first year, with a total energy generation of roughly 10512 MU during a 25-year timeframe. SJVN has 2550 MW of solar projects under construction across the country.
