Uttar Pradesh has approved solar power projects worth approximately Rs 10,000 crore to meet the state’s renewable energy goal of 22,000 MW. The roadmap includes the development of three solar projects, totaling 2,000 MW, in the Bundelkhand region, with installations planned for Jhansi, Lalitpur, and Chitrakoot districts.
According to a government official, NTPC Green Energy will develop 800 MW and 600 MW solar power plants in Chitrakoot and Lalitpur, respectively, while the Hinduja Group has been selected to develop a 600 MW unit in Jhansi.
The UP New and Renewable Energy Development Agency (UPNEDA) has selected two companies to develop three solar power projects, with an expected operational date of December 2025.
The UPNEDA has issued bids for a 1,200 MW solar plant in Jalaun, Bundelkhand, with similar projects planned for Mirzapur, Kanpur, and Prayagraj, leveraging Bundelkhand’s vast land and optimal solar radiation for green energy.
The UP government is also planning to set up floating solar plants across reservoirs in partnership with NTPC, Tehri Hydro Development Corporation, and Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam.
Uttar Pradesh expects to save Rs 1 trillion by replacing conventional energy with solar power. The state has integrated solar energy into the Jal Jeevan Mission, which includes 41,000 projects, further reducing energy costs and contributing to these savings.
The government has set a target to produce 1 million tonnes of green hydrogen/green ammonia annually by 2029.
