UltraTech Cement inaugurated an 8.50 MWp DC solar power plant at a unit of their cement factory in Sonbhadra district, Varanasi.
The total consumption of the factory unit is around 27 MW, and the solar plant is expected to meet one-third of this requirement. The power generated will be used for the cement plant and the staff colony.
A company official stated that a reduction in 1 MW of coal-based energy will prevent approximately 820 kg of carbon emissions. Therefore, the 8.50 MW plant will reduce about 6,970 kgs of carbon emissions.
In 2021, Ultra tech, one of the largest manufacturers of grey cement inaugurated, joined the RE 100 and committed to meeting 100% of its energy requirement with green energy.
Since cement factories consume huge amounts of energy, the switch to solar can help such businesses reduce their energy expenses and bring down overall operational costs. In the past few years, many organizations in the cement manufacturing arena have been adopting this clean energy resource to maximize savings and reduce grid reliance.
