Gujarat leads in rooftop solar adoption, adding 1,000 MW in just a year under the PM Surya Ghar Yojana! With 2.7 lakh new households going solar, the state now boasts a total of 8.73 lakh solar-powered homes.
The state’s residential solar capacity has soared to 3,400 MW, with Ahmedabad leading at 1.22 lakh rooftop installations. All four major cities have crossed 1 lakh solar-powered homes, while adoption spans every district!
Jai Prakash Shivahare, MD, Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Ltd (GUVNL), said, “The govt has a clear policy to promote solar rooftop adoption in line with the vision of the Prime Minister, who envisions consumers becoming producers of power. The PM Surya Ghar scheme has ensured a simple and smooth process, establishing a fast and automated approval system.”
As a result, around 2.70 lakh households in Gujarat adopted rooftop solar within a year,” he added. Shivahare highlighted that the earlier version of the scheme introduced a rolling fund mechanism to ensure timely vendor payments— a key factor in making Gujarat a leader in rooftop solar adoption.
“Gujarat has a strong ecosystem for solar energy, with over 1,100 vendors and a local manufacturing base that ensures competitive pricing. The state govt’s proactive approach and supportive policies have led to widespread solar rooftop adoption across all regions of the state,” he added.
In February last year, the central government launched the PM Surya Ghar scheme, offering enhanced subsidies of up to ₹78,000, driving a significant surge in rooftop solar installations.
