Government to Solarise | Ornate Solar

The Government of India along with the Power Ministry has developed a roadmap to solarise the Indian agriculture sector.

Mr. R K Singh said this in the Economic Times Energy Leadership Summit 2021, “In the new scheme we are coming out with, which will be put before the cabinet soon, we are setting aside Rs 20,000 crore for agricultural feeders which we will solarise. The cost of solarisation will be met by agricultural subsidy by states.”

As per Mr. R K Singh, India needs 10 GW of solar capacity dedicated to the agriculture sector. Only if this happens will the entire Indian agriculture be solarised.

If we see the growth of the Indian renewable industry, in the last 5 years, India has added 96 GW of power. The Indian Solar industry has risen by fifteen times.

As of now the solar manufacturing capability of India is just 3 GW, between 2.16 billion dollars. Now India is working towards setting up a domestic solar manufacturing industry. The project developers now have to show the manufacturing capability of a minimum of 10% of the project.

Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency Ltd (IREDA) has also started inviting bids from solar module manufacturers for setting up solar manufacturing units under the Rs 4,500 crore scheme.

“Solar capacity addition presently depends largely upon imported solar PV cells and modules as the domestic industry has limited operational capacities of solar PV cells and modules. The National Programme on High-Efficiency Solar PV Modules will reduce import dependence in a strategic sector like electricity and as such reinforce the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative,” IREDA had said in a statement.

Benefits expected

  • Additional 10,000 MW capacity of integrated solar PV manufacturing plants.
  • Direct investment of around 17,200 crores in setting up solar PV manufacturing projects.
  • Direct employment of about 30,000 and Indirect employment of about 1,20,000 persons.
