The MNRE has established a mission directorate to oversee the implementation of the PM-Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana to ensure the achievement of its goals and manage day-to-day operations.

The Directorate will be headed by the joint secretary in charge of the rooftop solar division at the MNRE.

The Directorate will be responsible for Issuing program guidelines and amendments, coordinating with stakeholders, issuing advisories, and releasing funds to the national program implementation agency.

The Directorate will coordinate with agencies across India for smooth implementation.

The PM-Surya Ghar program, launched in February 2024, aims to install rooftop solar in 10 million households with a budget of ₹750 billion, offering subsidies up to ₹78,000 for solar power installations.

The government had also launched a national portal for registration of applications, uploading feasibility documents and project completion reports, and subsidy applications.

The government also planned to train 100,000 individuals in solar panel installation and maintenance to accelerate the PM Surya Ghar Initiative.
