Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced that more than 1 crore Indian households have already registered for the newly launched Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana.
“Registrations have been pouring in from all parts of the nation. Assam, Bihar, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Odisha, Tamil Nadu and Uttar Pradesh have seen over 5 lakh regulations” he stated in a social media post.
The Prime Minister launched the scheme in February 2024, with the target of solarizing 1 crore households. The central government will be investing a sum of ₹75,000 crores in the rooftop solar programme.
PM Modi lauded the rapid adoption of solar and urged the residents who haven’t registered yet, to do so at the earliest. Under the initiative, beneficiaries can enjoy up to 300 units of free electricity by installing rooftop solar plants.
MNRE has also raised the solar subsidy and made it easier for consumers to avail loans to finance their rooftop solar installation.
To register for the scheme, individuals can submit their application on https://pmsuryaghar.gov.in/.
