On Sunday, April 24, 2022, the indescribable hamlet of Palli which is a township in Jammu and Kashmir’s border region of Samba became India’s first “carbon neutral panchayat.”
The Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, has dedicated a 500-kilovolt solar plant to the nation in order to make this settlement a carbon-neutral panchayat. The installation of this plant took around three weeks which is also a record in itself.
The people greeted Modi with cheers and acclaim as he launched the solar power facility.
Palli, according to the prime minister, has paved the door for the country to become carbon neutral. “Palli residents have contributed to the initiative. They’ve also fed those who were working on the project “he stated
Officials added that under the national government’s ‘Gram Urja Swaraj’ Program, 1,500 solar panels with a total area of 6,408 square meters will provide clean electricity to 340 homes in the model panchayat.
Palli villagers in Jammu and Kashmir’s Samba border district are pleased with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit.
This day is known as the “red-letter day” in India’s modern development and transformation history.
“It’s a special day for us. The hamlet has gone down in Indian history as the first carbon-neutral solar village, thanks to Modi ji’s blessing. We appreciate the Prime Minister’s decision to select this hamlet from across the country “Gurdeep Singh, a Palli villager, explained.
With an enhanced Panchayat Ghar, refurbished government high school building, a new pond, and improved playfields, the community located just 17 kilometers from the winter capital Jammu is undergoing a huge transformation.
Officials said the renovation was finished in record time for a cost of Rs 2.75 crore. The electricity generated will be distributed to the village through the local power grid station, which has a daily need of 2,000 units.
The community, which has 450 households, has received solar ‘chulhas‘ (stoves), and the next phase will cover all of the houses after the prime minister’s visit, according to officials.
