The United Nations has written a letter of thanks to the state-owned power company NTPC for its efforts and commitment to renewable energy. “Ms. Damilola Ogunbiyi, Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Sustainable Energy for All and UN-Energy Co-Chair, wrote a letter of appreciation to NTPC Ltd, India’s largest integrated energy company, for its efforts and commitments towards the Energy Compact process,” the power giant said in a statement.
UN-Energy has recognized NTPC’s commitment to clean energy and welcomed it into the Energy Compact Action Network, according to the statement. The National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) has presented its plans for the Energy Compact, which outlines lofty ambitions for 2030.
The leadership of NTPC will make a substantial contribution to the attainment of SDG7. According to the statement, the NTPC’s inclusion in the Energy Compact Action Network makes it a key representative of the Energy Compact process.
NTPC has joined a thriving Energy Compact community that aspires to undertake revolutionary change as a result of its participation. In early 2022, an Energy Compact Action Network will be developed to give this community a platform for engagement, collaboration, and knowledge sharing. This network, which will be supported by UN-Energy, will be an important instrument for matching people, establishing synergies, and mobilizing additional commitments and action. The total installed capacity of the NTPC Group is 67,907.5 MW (including 13,675 MW through JVs/Subsidiaries), with 49 NTPC stations (23 coal-based stations, 7 gas-based stations, 1 hydro station, 18 Renewable projects) and 26 joint venture stations (9 coal-based, 4 gas-based, 8 hydro, 1 small hydro, 2 wind and 2 solar PV). A total of 13,600 MW of capacity is currently under construction.
