  • UP announces plans to develop Ghaziabad as a solar city
  • UPNEDA to install rooftop solar systems over residential, industrial, commercial, and government buildings.

Uttar Pradesh New and Renewable Energy Development Agency (UPNEDA) has announced plans to transform Ghaziabad into a solar city like Ayodhya. In 4 years, the agency plans to meet 10% of the region’s power demand through solar energy.

The announcement was made at a workshop on creating awareness about solar and renewable energy.

“By 2027, there is a plan afoot to generate 22,000 MW of power from solar energy in the state and the government launched the pilot project from Ayodhya. Ghaziabad is next,” said Anupam Shukla, Director, UPNEDA.

The state government, via UPNEDA, plans to allocate ₹20 crore over the next five years for the installation of rooftop solar panels in residential, industrial, commercial, and government buildings.

The UP government will also provide residential consumers with a subsidy of ₹15,000/kW (Up to ₹30,000) in addition to the Central Financial Assistance.

Uttar Pradesh is now one of the states at the forefront of India’s green energy efforts. In July 2023, the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) inaugurated a 585kWp solar plant at the RRTS Depot in Duhai, Ghaziabad. Moreover, the UP government recently announced plans to solarize the entire 296km stretch of Bundelkhand Expressway.
